when my followers' number has dropped, i'd like to be able to see who has unfollowed and perhaps get an email when people unfollow, so i can work out why.

Hey,
You should try using Qwitter. They will send you emails letting you know everytime someone stops following you. I've been using it for quite a while, and it's a useful app!
