Can you tell me exactly how the Tweet Count actually works?

Posted by CMO On Demand — 18th of January 2011, 16:48 PM

I have been following Stats for a client. Last week one of their new accounts has 19 Tweets, this week they have 38 and nobody actually did anything on the account for all of last week. Please advise. Thanks, Ray

We get all our numbers directly through the Twitter API. Sometimes the numbers are incorrect, but unfortunately we can't do anything about this. It usually corrects itself within a few days though.

For a more technical answer on why Twitter reports the wrong numbers, please review the answer given by John Kalucki on Quora http://www.quora.com/Why-is-Twitter-having-problems-reporting-the-correct-number-of-tweets-a-user-has-made
