Dutch-born Henk van Ess is, according to The Economist, New York Times
and CNBC specialised in investigative journalism & new media. He is
deeply involved in the worldwide education of information specialists,
reporters and multimedia & web editors. Van Ess chairs the
Dutch/Flemish organisation for investigative reporters VVOJ and is
member of VVOJ Medialab, an educational website for reporters.
He is a regular speaker at international conferences like the Global
Investigative Journalism Conference, SKUP, Netzwerk Recherche and the
conferences of the VVOJ. His latest books are "Handboek
Datajournalism" (Boom, 2012) and Google Code (Pearson, 2011 - Dutch,
German and French edition).
Henk has a long track record of implementing educational projects for
boards, management and employees. He has trained over 7000
professionals in the practical and critical use of the web,
multimedia, social media, cross media and internet research. He has
run workshops for the media in Europe, the US and Canada (e.g.
Spiegel, Die Zeit, AD, ABC, ARD, CBC, FD, HDC, NOS, NDP, NRC, NVB,
Persgroep, RNW, Zembla, VRT, NCRV, KRO, AVRO, Stern, FD, VN,
Volkskrant, ZDF) and does in company training and events for
Van Ess is member of several think tanks for new internet concepts
like video search, crowd sourcing and designing for tablets. As a
hobby, he publishes websites about internet research. One of them was
quoted on the official Google Blog under ʻWhat Weʼre Readingʼ.
