Do we really need Twitter? Could it be a waste of time? If your boss has asked you these questions, I hope your response was rolling your eyes! Because yes, we could survive without it but Twitter is just too good to live without.
So here’s what I’d say to my boss if (in a parallel universe) he’d asked me this question.
Twitter can help build relationships
That’s probably the biggest value of Twitter. It is a medium so simple and direct that makes interaction and building relationships easier than ever.
People follow brands for many different reasons. But most of all, they follow brands because they want to keep in touch with them. In other words, Twitter is the tool you need for building relationships with your existing customers as well as gaining new ones.
Twitter is for listening
Twitter is first and foremost an engagement tool but it definitely makes listening to your customers a lot easier. What do they talk about? What do they think of your brand? Do they share any feedback? First hand, ufiltered information that can be extremely useful. All you need to do is set up right hashtags and keywords that are connected to your brand and listen.
Twitter can help promote a brand
Twitter can be a great distribution tool for your brand as long as you throw engagement and interaction in the mix. It has in fact, made it a lot easier for brands to promote their products or launch a Twitter campaign with tools such as Twitter cards, promoted tweets or even promoted trends.
Stay on top of trends
Back in the old days, people read the newspaper for news. Now news first break on Twitter. What do people around the world or even in your region are talking about on Twitter? Staying on top of Twitter trends is part of the listening process and can help you identify opportunities to reach out to a wider audience, engage and convert.
